Building An Execution Muscle
2 minute read
Ideation without execution is delusion
I wish I’d come up with that quote. But, I didn’t. That was Robin Sharma. In one of his blogs, he noted “this world of ours is full of great thinkers who never realized their greatness.”
I believe all entrepreneurs are creative regardless of the type of business they run. You have to be to figure out how to solve your customer's problems or come up with innovative ways to stand out from the competition.
I know where that creativity has landed me: reams and reams of IDEAS....brilliant ones, if I do say so myself.
But that's where I and others go wrong: We ideate without execution. Being successful requires the discipline to consistently do the work to achieve your goals. (Robin Sharma lays out some specific tactics to do this, and you can learn more about one of them in this short article.)
Jump Start Your Execution Muscle
One of the ways I jump-start my "execution muscle" and gain momentum is to take immediate, imperfect action. You can do the same:
Identify 3 things you've been procrastinating on.
Write down how long you've been procrastinating on each. (This is how much time you could have been enjoying the fruits of that task.)
Write down how much time it will take to complete the task.
Do the shortest task RIGHT NOW.
Schedule a time to complete the other tasks in the next 48 hours.
Complete the remaining tasks during the scheduled time, then bask in your greatness.
